Nothing Will Happen Until You Take Action

Monday, July 5th, 2010

“The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.”Denis Watley

All of us want to be successful in our lives. NO matter what our definition of success is, we do want to achieve it. A lot of people will tell you that it wasn’t only education that brought them success in their businesses – it was actually the motivation, dedication and ambitions to be successful that made them who they are. But mind you, success comes to those who strive for it. It will not come walking to you unless you start taking steps towards it.

Our actions determine who we are!

You can talk all you want about what you dream to be, what you want to achieve but talking won’t help – you need implementation! You need to go beyond just dreaming. You need to start planning practically and implement those plans in your life. Dreams and ambitions are a part of you, me and all of us – every one of us. You are an average, ordinary person but your desire to achieve something special makes you a ‘somebody’. The day you take your first baby step towards achieving your dreams is the day you rise above the average man.

If you ever paid attention to the lectures in all those general science classes, then recall Newton’s First Law of Motion. It says, “Everything will stay in its state of rest until an external force causes it to change its state of rest or motion.” I always think of this law as a lesson that until and unless we take actions, we will remain as we are – static like a stone. We will only be building castles in the air, talking big but doing nothing. Not only does this belittles us as humans and stops our personal growth but also inhibits any kind of growth in business or otherwise.

In the field on internet marketing, it is impossible for one to just sit on a chair and stare at a screen. You HAVE to chalk out your plans, organize yourself, learn about the various latest and upcoming internet marketing tools and set goals. You need to set deadlines for your goals because without them. You need to challenge yourself and get constant inspiration to achieve your desired objectives. You have to communicate consistently with your clients so don’t become lazy and stop checking your mails for feedback and comments, because it is the buyers and your clients who make you who you are. People will only be encouraged to buy from you if they see potential in you and trust me people can judge your true determination more than you know about yourself!

The best thing about having goals is that success becomes more real and visible once you start working towards it, you become more motivated.

The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going.Ralph Waldo Emerson

Your first and foremost goal in internet marketing should be to become more visible on the internet. People should be able to access you with ease and your online business should attract traffic. Do you think if you put your website on the World Wide Web, people will automatically start visiting you? Of course not! You have to take action to improve traffic and market your business and website online, link it to other sites etc.
Don’t sit around waiting for motivation to strike you like a lightning. That just doesn’t happen! Until and unless you start taking action and do something about your online business, you will not be motivated to do more. Motivation comes only when you are determined to achieve a goal because how can you be motivated until you know what you are aiming for? A very important thing to remember while internet marketing is that you should never let small failures stop you from doing more!

“You must have long term goals to keep you from being frustrated by short term failures.”Charles C. Noble

The Power of Article Marketing

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

“Business has only two functions – marketing and innovation.” Milan Kundera

The above quote applies to all businesses, even those on the internet. Innovation is something which can only be brought about when you know your business thoroughly and are passionate about it. That way, you will keep coming up with innovative ideas to make it different from the rest. As for using internet marketing for your online business, one of the best and also the most productive method is using article marketing.

Writing is a powerful skill that is useful for countless reasons — the most in the world of internet and internet marketing, writing articles to market business has more power than you ever thought of. Think of it this way, your website, blog or social network profile is a tiny shop in a huge marketplace. Now, how will buyers find their way to your shop when they have so much to choose from? One of the ways people will try to find you are to type in certain keywords in a search engine and then visit the websites which offer them with what they want. The power of article marketing is that it is a cheap method; you can write from home and advertise your business, products or services.

Still confused? Here’s how article marketing links your website and makes it popular:

Let’s say you run a small business online selling leather bags. You will most likely find a lot of competitors who have there websites and online businesses on the same niche, i.e selling leather bags and goods. So, how do you become visible on the internet and increase traffic to your site? You write short articles, ideally 400-700 words on different topics related to leather bags (how to clean a leather bag, the best quality leather, differentiate between faux pas and real leather etc) and submit it the various article directories adding a little ‘About You’ at the bottom and giving links to your website. In this way, when people read your article they will then visit the link given below too!

“Make it simple. Make it memorable. Make it inviting to look at. Make it fun to read.”Leo Burnett

That is what article marketing is all about –writing simple, yet attractive articles so, you can attract more traffic to your website. The only other thing you should keep in mind is to add your chosen keywords to the content and submit your articles to article directories. One or two articles won’t improve the traffic on your website; you will have to write regularly! Then just watch your sites traffic go up through article marketing.

Article marketing is also powerful because it brings up your rankings on search engines. For example, if I want to hire an interior designer to renovate my daughter’s bedroom, I should be able to write ‘Home décor services’ or ‘interior designer services’ in a search engine and thousands of websites will pop up. Mostly people select from the first twenty websites that show up. Your sites ranking in a search engine all depends on several things, among which article marketing is top of the list. Article marketing basically means to write an article of ideally 400-700 words describing your business, why you’re good at it, dishing out advice on topics related to your business etc. What it does is that, it builds content of your website and then those information and keyword-rich articles become a source of one way links. Linking your website will bring your business’ ranking way up on the search engines.

There are countless powers of article marketing, one of them also being that it increases your credibility as an expert in your field. People will want to buy from you because you just have so much to say about your business, which shows your dedication and passion to selling it, therefore making you a credible source to buy from. You can share your personal experiences as well, which gives an even better insight into who you are and why you know better than the rest.

There is also a high possibility that well-written and information laden articles be shared on social networking websites, linking your site to more and more people. Article marketing requires little or no monetary investment, and once you get used to it, you will be writing several articles in a day! Imagine where your websites ranking can go! Article marketing is an excellent tool in internet marketing and promoting your online business, so what are you waiting for? Organize yourself and write away!

Where Will You Be This Time Next Year If You Don’t Start Now

“Nothing is as fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.William James

If there ever was an 8th sin, it would be procrastination. Yes, that’s how bad being lazy is! Ok, so I know sloth is one of the seven sins, but seriously, although procrastination is an off-shoot from sloth, it should have a category of its own! The repercussions you face for delaying things can be fatal. All the music that you have to face, all the last minute pile up and of course the Marshal’s Law (what has to go wrong will go wrong) occur when you leave things for the last minute. It is criminal to leave your dreams and goals for the last minute or to keep delaying them.

I read this beautiful saying by Woodrow Wilson and it says,

“We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter’s evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.”

All of us have dreams and goals, somewhere we want to go, something we want to achieve, because without them who would we be?
What makes a difference is that although everyone has dreams, the ones who pursue them, work towards their goals will achieve them. The simple rule to achieving your dreams is hard work and to make them into reality you have to start working TODAY. If, for example, you have been planning to start your small online business, but haven’t yet taken any action, then you better not wait. Remember, tomorrow is your worst enemy, never leave things for tomorrow. Organize yourself today, make a schedule today so you know exactly what you will be doing the whole of next week.

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success”Stephen A. Brennan

In the world of internet marketing, there is no tomorrow. The time dimensions of the internet are much smaller! You can go online 24 hours a day, it’s not a job that has proper timings after which you can’t work. To achieve your internet marketing goals you HAVE to be on your toes, keep yourself updated about the Internet, especially since there are so many social media networking websites that keep giving you new options to make a better presence on the internet.

“You may delay, but time will not.”
Benjamin Franklin

Time will not and CANNOT stop for you or for anyone. It will move on and next year will come anyway, so why not do today what you delay till tomorrow? Why go through the pains? Until you achieve your goals through internet marketing how are you going to list the next set of goals? You have to get your act straight and start moving towards achieving your dreams. Remember internet marketing offers you an opportunity to achieve your perfect dreams, but as in all other aspects of life, you HAVE to be dedicated and organized. Someone who is not dedicated and organized will fail at marketing through the internet.
Do what you can do today, instead of delaying it tomorrow for an unneeded nap or an extended lunch break. You are not on a vacation, you have goals to achieve….and miles to go before you sleep!

Make hay while the sun shines and your is still shining!

When To Outsource And When Not To Outsource

Friday, June 25th, 2010

If you think you have so much in your hands and can’t take any more work, why not hire a help? In other words get it ‘Outsourced’! Yes, outsource your work. Everybody does that, however, one has to be sure that the person you are hiring is reliable, but then that’s a long story. Though, I’ll write about it in my upcoming blogs. Outsourcing is similar to hiring an employee in a company or organization, the only difference is that you don’t necessarily need the person to work with you in a physical environment/set up. To clarify myself, I’m talking about to outsource your work online. Outsourcing is the practice of hiring consultants, employees and take services from other service providers from the outside — like freelancers — for planning, implementing, and getting various tasks done.

If you want to start your own small business online, the best strategy to employ would be to get different tasks outsourced. Remember, launching an online business is one thing, but maintaining it on the internet is another because you will need to constantly update it, maintain your website/profile, stay in touch with your clients, and write articles and so on.

You see, you may be selling the best fashion accessories through the internet but your website’s content is uninteresting and unexciting, then you can’t expect people to visit your website. A website without web traffic is the same as organizing an art exhibition and only 2 people visit it. I couldn’t have come up with a better example — imagine the feeling of having an ‘art exhibition’ and nobody coming – it’s hopeless and ineffectual! Writing isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, so if you think you are pitiable writer, then it’s no use of making attempts. The best solution would be to outsource the work and give it to a freelance writer. But then, it’s likely that you can write well, but don’t have the time to manage it, again, outsourcing is what helps the best. Similarly, if you know nothing of internet marketing, better not take risk and go on employing dire methods to get your website promoted. The bottom line is whatever online business you want to start, never let anything become a barrier in your quest to venture deeper into marketing your business online. I often come across people who find internet marketing a bit difficult for them. Most probably because of lack of time or deficient of technical know-how behind it.

If you too, facing these issues, then it’s about time you consider outsourcing some tasks so you can focus better on your business. Outsourcing is not as easy as it may sound, but this is not meant to scare you away. There are some things you would want to keep in mind before you start outsourcing your internet marketing tasks:

1. Outsourcing will cost you money so, you should check out rates of various providers or companies proficiently offering such services and how much they charge.

2. The people you hire will be working from another location, possibly even a country miles away from you, so you need to develop a relationship with the company and have regular communication with the outsource workers.

You should outsource as soon as possible if:
• You think you cannot handle the work pressure, then you should share some of it by outsourcing the internet marketing task.

• If you are facing time constraints and you cannot manage your time between expanding your business and marketing it on the internet.

• The tasks you’re supposed to carry out for internet marketing do not fall into your area of expertise; you should definitely outsource the tasks because your business repute depends on it. Remember there should be no compromise on the quality of your marketing techniques.

When outsourcing your internet marketing techniques, play smart. Outsourcing work is a once-in-a-while deal that will last for a longer period of time and benefit you all the while. This way, your business will run smoothly and professionally and put a good impression of your business on others. We don’t want to compromise on our first impressions right? Afterwards, if you feel that copywriting or updating your blog/profile/website is not your piece of cake you should outsource this job to someone who is an expert in it. For example, there are ways of making your website visible on search engines that you might not know of or are not an expert in, hand the job over to someone who is.
Don’t outsource your work if you feel that you will go out of budget, even though it is advisable to invest in outsourcing because it begets returns, however if you feel it is too early in the business for you to invest in it then don’t. The regular business rules apply to outsourcing too –investment versus profit etc.

“Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.” Arnold H. Glasgow

All you need to do is to act smartly, invest wisely and be organized in giving tasks to the people you hire. Also, outsourcing does not mean that you outsource all of your work!

Do What You Love and The Rest Will Fall Into Place

Monday, June 21st, 2010

There are times in your life when you have to just stop, look inside you and wonder what you’ve become. Is this what you’ve always wanted to be? I mean, sure you have a car, a house with a white picket fence, but do you love who you are? Do you love what you’re doing?

Don’t panic! It’s normal and a very common phenomenon in today’s world, especially because so many of us become a part of this ‘race’ that we often forget ourselves. We lose sight of who we really wanted to be and what we actually wanted to do. We often feel this strange emptiness inside which is irritating but somehow we can’t put our finger on what is bothering us. I believe that this emptiness is because of a lack of passion in your life, the void is created because you’re not doing things that you absolutely LOVE. In simpler words, you are not listening to your heart.

Go to your bosom: Knock there, and ask your heart what it doth know.William Shakespeare

Follow your heart and it will enrich your soul, which is the most essential part of your existence. We tend to forget that our soul needs to be fed with our heart’s desires in order to be complete and content. This is why I always advise my clients and readers to adopt a simple rule – ‘Follow your heart’.

Follow your heart and you will see how your life starts to fall in place. It’s almost like finding that ONE piece of a jigsaw puzzle which will make fitting the rest of the pieces in so much easier. You need to find your passion/s. It can be fishing, painting, photography, anything under the sun which makes YOU a happier person.

Let your heart rule and your imagination run wild. Don’t think about the practicality of your passions just yet. Isn’t that what we’ve done throughout our lives? Thinking practically and then letting go of things we wanted to do. No harm in dreaming while you take a break from normality, right?

Do you remember this? “I learned that there were two ways I could live my life: following my dreams or doing something else. Dreams aren’t a matter of chance, but a matter of choice. When I dream, I believe I am rehearsing my future.”David Copperfield

Dream, follow your heart and make it your life!

If for example, you are passionate about photography, list all that you can do –collect and organize photographs you’ve taken in the past, do a little research on what is happening in the world of photography etc This will help revitalize your hidden, buried love for it. The next step is to click away! Eventually, you’ll see a theme developing in your photographs, then you can give them creative captions and the list of ideas goes on and on. In this exercise the MOST important thing to do is to show your passion to the world while you make a living out of it!
When we follow our heart and our passions become our lives, the benefits we reap from it are far greater than we ever expected. You will not only be making a living out of what you love but it will make you a happier person. What better way to find success? The ‘guru’ would say ‘Internet Marketing’!

Join a social networking and bookmarking websites if you’re not on it already, make a nice profile and put your passion on display. Blog about it, talk to other people who share the same interests. Believe it or not, this will help you in discovering yourself so much! Often it is difficult to find people who share your passion because no matter how hard we try, it is not possible for a normal person with the typical ’9-5′ job routine to expand his/her social circle. The world of the internet especially since the invasion of social networking websites and blogs, the internet is this amazing social club where you don’t have to work very hard in finding people who have the same interests as you.

Put up your photographs on your profile — or ever better – make your own website! You can ask a professional to make a nice, catchy website for you. Once it’s up there, you can tell people about it, share it with those who might be interested in buying the photographs you’ve taken or want to use your services as a freelance photographer. Market your work, internet is just the tool you need. Spice your offers by adding incentives; like in this case you could give them a free frame. Make your presence felt and tell the world that you have arrived! You have to have faith in yourself, in your work and you have to remember that when you’re doing what you love, people WILL notice it because it is human nature to be curious about those who follow their passions.

Want to know the best thing about this whole business? Initially, you don’t have to invest in a shop or an office setup because you’re communicating online with your clients, yet you will find the amount of money you can make just with internet marketing. You can communicate wherever you are, whenever you want to!

Having a lousy day or second thoughts? Write this down somewhere to help you out on the days you are blue:

Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream. — Paulo Coelho
