Many people succumb to someday syndrome – thinking that someday their ship will come in, someday they’ll be successful, someday they’ll be rich, someday they’ll be happy. They feel like they don’t have enough good ideas to make themselves successful. Well, here’s the good news – ONE great idea is enough to change your life. Just one.
That one brilliant spark of an idea is enough to set you on a path to change your life. It may give you the vision of a new product to develop. It may be the title of a book you want to write. It might be a marketing idea that you’d never considered before as a way to reach your target audience. Whatever you have, that one idea may be the idea that brings you success. All you need to do is grab hold of that idea and develop it.
Think about oak trees. Anyone who has lived near an oak tree knows that they produce tons of acorns. Acorns are the seeds that grow oak trees, so why don’t we have thousands of oak trees growing all over the place? Because not all acorns get the ideal conditions needed to grow into trees. Some are eaten by squirrels, some fall right next to the tree and rot on the ground, others just never sprout.
Your idea is like an acorn. You need to plant it in fertile ground and take care of it so it grows into a big tree of success. Without care, your idea might rot (or someone else might steal it from you and grow their own tree using your seed!). Your idea will be under attack by ravenous predators who want to destroy your idea with their negative opinions. Avoid these people at all costs while you’re developing your idea. Surround yourself with people who will fertilize your idea with positive thoughts and words.
So wondering where you’re going to come up with this one great idea? It could come from anywhere! Carry around a small notebook and jot down your ideas as they come to you. Don’t let them slip away by thinking “I’ll remember it later!” That idea might just slip right by you and into the mind of someone else. Ideas belong to the universe, so be sure to capture yours as it flies by!
Ideas also arise when you surround yourself with interesting and different people. If you spend your life in the same social and business circle, you’ll keep finding the same used ideas. Make it a point to meet people who are not in your industry, people who are not in your normal social circle. Hang out with people who make you feel a little bit uncomfortable! You’ll find that the experience will open your mind to new ideas – maybe even that ONE idea that will revolutionize your life.
