Wealth is easy to achieve if you have the right attitude and mindset. You can go from being homeless on the streets to being a multi-millionaire with the right thoughts and mindset (think Joe Vitale). On the flip side, you can do exactly the opposite if you have the wrong mental attitude.
So what exactly do wealthy people do that makes them so successful while the rest of us are sitting around the house, too broke to buy a pizza? Let’s do a quick test to see how you think. You open your mail one day to find a money order for $1000. There’s no return address, no way of figuring out who has sent it to you. What are you going to do with the money?
Go on… think of your answer. $1000 that you didn’t expect to receive is in your hands. What’s the first thing you want to do with it?
A) You thought about buying something you’ve wanted for a long time.
B) You thought about going out for a really nice dinner!
C) You thought about using it to pay down a debt.
D) You thought about saving it.
E) You thought about investing it.
If you thought A or B, you’re thinking like a poor person. If you chose C, D, or E, you are thinking like a wealthy person. Of course, this doesn’t mean that wealthy people don’t spend money! It just means that they tend to think of what money can do for them in the long term, while people who are broke mostly think of the short-term benefits of money.
Broke people think in terms of short-term benefits. They want immediate gratification. If your thought about that $1000 was taking it to the electronics store and exchanging it for a plasma television, then you’re thinking in short-term benefits. Now think about this. If you put that $1000 toward your credit card debt, you will be debt free sooner. Debt free means more of your monthly income freed up to save, invest, and yes, even make purchases. Paying off that credit card with the $1000 will give you the opportunity to save nearly six times that amount in a decade, and all you have to do is put the $50 you would have spent on your credit card payment in the bank! So, do you want a new TV now or $6000 in a decade?
Wealthy people think in the long-term. If they spent all their money on short-term benefits, they wouldn’t have any to save and invest and build their wealth! Thinking thoughts of wealth and abundance are one step toward building your personal fortune, but it goes hand in hand with thinking in the long-term. Imagine every dollar you earn growing into ten dollars. Imagine every ten dollars growing into one hundred. Your income will consistently grow if you maintain an attitude of gratitude for the wealth that is coming into your life and a focus on your long-term goals.
